When diagnosis matters
Most dental disease in dogs and cats goes undetected until it’s causing significant pain. A visible tartar buildup or bad breath tells you something is wrong — not what, or how far it’s progressed. That requires imaging, probing, and a structured diagnostic process. In most cases, diagnosis and treatment happen on the same visit, avoiding a repeat anaesthetic.
- History and referral notesRecords from your vet are requested before your visit — including any tests already done and medical history relevant to anaesthetic safety.
- Consultation examinationA physical examination in the consultation room. Brief if your pet is in pain and reluctant to be handled — but enough to form a working picture before anaesthesia.
- Full examination under anaesthesiaDiagnostic imaging and testing
- Diagnosis and treatment planA confirmed diagnosis with a full treatment plan. In most cases, treatment proceeds on the same day — no need for a separate visit.
For referring vets
A referral to Sydney Pet Dentistry doesn’t always have to be a physical visit. An X-ray reading service is in development that may allow patients — including cats — to stay in-hospital with their regular vet and receive remote specialist input.
