Referring to Sydney Pet Dentistry
Referring to Sydney Pet Dentistry is a collaborative experience. We understand that a pet’s primary care vet is the centre of their healthcare team. Our role is to assist you with your patients’ oral care needs as part of your support team, and to hand them back over for ongoing care once stable.
Why & When to Refer
Referral dentistry should be considered for complex cases, advanced procedures, or for long surgeries that you don’t want staged. We can perform advanced anaesthesia for patients that require dental care. We also see emergencies and revision surgeries. Complications happen to all of us – if you have trouble we are here to help you out.
How to Refer
Refer through our website forms, by email or phone.
Ask your client to call us to make an appointment. We can supply you with client information brochures.
If possible, sending through the referral in advance can save confusion.
Services
Emergencies
Some dental emergencies should be treated within 48-72 hours, as long as the patient is stable. Freshly broken or avulsed teeth are common emergencies.
No Staging
Our vets are experienced and efficient oral surgeons. With very few exceptions, we can treat patients that might usually require multi-stage dental treatment under one anaesthetic. This has clear benefits for all pets, especially old or sick patients. It can even reduce the cost of some treatments compared to staged dental procedures.
Old and Sick Patients
Sydney Pet Dentistry offers a specialist anaesthesia service. Old and sick patients often have severe concurrent dental disease. The risks of anaesthesia and the length of surgery make clients and vets reluctant to anaesthetise a patient that really needs treatment for quality of life.
Our combination of specialist anaesthesia and quick, efficient surgery can allow the successful treatment of the most challenging cases.
